Senate Worried Over Attacks, Abductions In Kwara North
The Senate on Wednesday expressed concern over the worsening security situation in Kwara North Senatorial District, warning that persistent attacks by armed criminals could further destabilise communities if urgent action is not taken.
The red chamber specifically lamented the continued captivity of women and children abducted during the Woro massacre, recurring attacks on communities, and the recent burning of the palace of the Emir of Yashikira by suspected criminals.
The resolution followed the adoption of a motion titled, “Urgent Need for Federal Government Intervention to Address the Re-occurring Insecurity in Kwara North Senatorial District,” sponsored by Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar during plenary presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Leading the debate, Umar said the security situation in the district had deteriorated significantly in recent months despite efforts by security agencies and local vigilante groups.
He reminded lawmakers that, “Security is the primary responsibility of government as guaranteed under Section 14(2)(b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended).”
The senator lamented that communities across the district had continued to witness attacks by armed groups, resulting in loss of lives, abductions and destruction of property.
Three ex-Osun Lawmakers Dump APC
Three chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, who had at different times been lawmakers in Osun State House of Assembly, have resigned their membership of the party.
The lawmakers, Lekan Oyediran, Aleem Bakare and Folorunso Oladoyin, resigned their APC membership through letters addressed to the local government chairmen of the party.
The three resignations occured between June 1 and 2, and beside Bakare that cited lack of internal democracy for dumping APC, the other two chieftains did not state reasons for their action in the letters.
Checks by The PUNCH indicated that Oyediran represented Odo Otin State Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly between 1999 and 2003, while Aleem Bakare was in the parliament representing Ejigbo State Constituency between 2003 and 2007.
Folorunso Oladoyin, representing Ife South State Constituency in the Assembly between 2011 and 2019, went on to serve as the State Commissioner for Education in the administration of ex governor Adegboyega Oyetola til the government exited office on November 26, 2022.
Bakare also served in Oyetola administration as the Special Adviser to the governor on Land Matters.
All the three ex lawmakers were however linked to the ex National Secretary of the party, Senator Iyiola Omisore, who had kept his distance from the party since the conclusion of the governorship primary of APC in December, 2025.
But while speaking with The PUNCH on Wednesday on the development, the spokesperson of the Senator Iyiola Omisore Campaign Organisation, Jamiu Olawumi, admitted that the three former lawmakers the dumped APC were close allies of Omisore.
Olawumi, however, said the ex-Osun State Deputy Governor never instructed them to dump APC, adding that they must have arrived at the decision to move on, after considering their future in politics.

Electricity Distribution Companies in Nigeria collected about N600bn (N597.55bn) from consumers in the first quarter of 2026, according to the latest industry data released by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission.
The figure, which covers January to March 2026, shows the DisCos generated revenue close to the N600bn mark despite persistent challenges in the power sector.
According to the NERC commercial performance factsheets, the DisCos recorded N204.74bn in January, N196.68bn in February and N196.13bn in March 2026, bringing the first-quarter total to N597.55bn, averaging approximately N199.18bn per month.
The NERC reports highlight varying levels of commercial efficiency across the 11 DisCos. While some companies showed improvements in billing and collection efficiencies in certain months, overall performance remained mixed, with notable revenue shortfalls recorded monthly.

The Ondo State Governor, Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa has commended the judiciary and the security agencies for securing the conviction and death sentence of the four suspects responsible for the June 5, 2022 terror attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo.
Similarly the Olowo of Owo , Oba Ajibade Ogunoye expressed delight over the development, saying justice had been served.
No fewer than 41 worshippers of the Catholic church were killed while many were injured by the terrorists after the Sunday mass on the fateful day.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Ebenezer Adeniyan, on Wednesday , the governor described the court verdict as a “victory for justice, the rule of law, and for all victims of the heinous attack that claimed the lives of innocent worshippers and left many others injured.”
The governor said, “The diligence of the prosecution team, the thoroughness of investigators, and the courage of the judiciary have shown that our government will not tolerate acts of terror or violence against its people.
“This judgment sends a clear message that those who take innocent lives will face the full weight of the law, no matter how long it takes.”
Aiyedatiwa expressed appreciation to the people of Owo and the Catholic community, who, according to him, despite the trauma, have remained steadfast and committed to peace.
