Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Adeboro Adamson has defended the prosecution of activist and politician Omoyele Sowore, arguing that the Department of State Services (DSS) acted within its powers by taking legal action after the activist allegedly refused to withdraw remarks made against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Adamson made the remarks during an interview on Channels Television, on Tuesday, 23 June, 2026, while reacting to Sowore’s remand at the Kuje Correctional Centre over charges related to alleged cyberbullying. The senior lawyer maintained that the case should be viewed strictly from a legal perspective rather than a political one.
Speaking during the interview, Adamson claimed that Sowore had been given an opportunity to retract his comments and apologize before legal proceedings were initiated, but allegedly declined to do so.
“Mr Sowore called the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria a criminal. He was given an opportunity to retract that statement and apologize and he did not do. And DSS had no other option than to charge him to court for cyber bullying.”
According to Adamson, once the activist failed to withdraw the statement, the security agency proceeded with the legal process by filing charges in court. He argued that the matter is now before the judiciary, where the allegations and the defence would be examined based on the law.
