The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s chances of getting the party’s governorship ticket for a second term will depend on the decision of party leaders and supporters.

Speaking during an interview on News Central TV, Rivers APC Publicity Secretary, Chibuike Ikenga, said he could not give confirmed details about the screening of Governor Fubara because he was not a member of any screening committee handling the process in Abuja or Rivers State.

Ikenga explained that many of the discussions surrounding Fubara’s screening and possible return as governor remain speculation. According to him, no official statement has been made on the outcome of the screening exercise.

He also reacted to reports that Fubara may not get the APC ticket because of an alleged peace agreement reached during the political crisis in Rivers State involving former governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Ikenga said the governor’s political future would depend on whether party leaders, members, and supporters are willing to support his return. He added that if the party accepts him, he could secure the APC ticket and the party could go on to win the election.

However, he maintained that if party members do not want Fubara to return, the governor cannot impose himself on the party.

In his words, “If the Rivers People and the leaders and supporters of our party are in tune with that, he will win the ticket, and when he wins the ticket, APC will win. And if they do not want him to return, he can’t force himself.”
