BREAKING: Ugochinyere Raises Alarm Over J Lifu’s Controversial Judgments in Rivers

Federal lawmaker Ikenga Ugochinyere has expressed concern over a court case seeking the deregistration of several opposition political parties, warning that such actions could trigger a serious political crisis in the country.

Speaking during a press briefing shared by SYMFONI TV, Ugochinyere stated that many past judgments delivered by Justice J. Lifu had generated controversy, especially in matters linked to Rivers State and the People’s Democratic Party.

According to him, the suit was filed in December 2025 by a group known as the National Forum of Former Legislators. The case reportedly seeks the deregistration of nearly all opposition parties while preparations for elections are already ongoing across the country.

Ugochinyere argued that many candidates had already emerged for various political positions, including Senate and House of Representatives seats, making the legal action potentially detrimental to Nigeria’s democracy.

He warned that removing political parties from the electoral process at such a stage could create confusion, tension, and instability similar to political crises experienced in past republics.

The lawmaker also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to pay attention to the activities of politicians he described as desperate for power and political advantage.

He said the situation, if not properly handled, could threaten the country’s democratic process and create nationwide political unrest.

In his words, “Justice lifu, with all due respect to him, but most of his judgments in time past have raised some controversies and serious pressure on our political process that has to do with issues around Rivers, around PDP.”
