President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s media aide, Sunday Dare, has reacted strongly to comments made by former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, after the opposition figure called on the president to consider stepping down from office.
Dare expressed his views in a post shared on his verified X account, where he questioned Obi’s recent political positions and suggested that the former governor’s public image and credibility had changed significantly from the period when he enjoyed widespread support among Nigerians.
The former Minister of Youth and Sports Development described Obi’s recent comments as disappointing, arguing that they reflected a departure from the qualities and messages that previously attracted public attention to him.
The reaction followed Obi’s remarks urging President Tinubu to follow the example of United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who, according to Obi, demonstrated leadership by stepping aside amid political challenges and public dissatisfaction.
Obi’s statement calling for Tinubu’s resignation triggered responses from different sections of the political space, with supporters and critics debating whether such a move would represent accountability or an attempt to undermine a democratically elected government.
Dare, however, viewed the call differently. He argued that Obi’s intervention revealed deeper political motivations rather than a genuine concern for governance or national interest.
According to the presidential aide, Obi’s recent approach to political issues has moved away from the image that once earned him admiration among many Nigerians. He suggested that the former governor’s current positions lacked the clarity and consistency that characterized his earlier public engagements.
Dare’s criticism focused not only on Obi’s call for Tinubu’s resignation but also on what he described as a broader decline in the former presidential candidate’s political messaging.
He maintained that the former Anambra governor, who built a reputation around issues such as prudent leadership, accountability, and economic management, now appears to be receiving criticism because of positions that some observers consider politically motivated.
The exchange highlights the continued political tension between supporters of the Tinubu administration and opposition figures ahead of future electoral contests.
Obi remains one of Nigeria’s most prominent opposition politicians following his performance in the 2023 presidential election, where he emerged as a major contender.
His supporters, often referred to as the “Obidient movement,” have continued to advocate for his political agenda, while critics have frequently challenged his policies, statements, and approach to national issues.
Favor As Higher Power?
(The hidden truth)
Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor. Favor is silent, spiritual and higher power. For spiritual guidance, other solutions, call/Whatsapp Dr J.A. Faros on 07030514063. With God, all are possible.
