Three Reps dump APC, defect to ADC, PRP
Three members of the House of Representatives on Wednesday dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, for the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP.
This came barely a day after the National Assembly resumed plenary following a Sallah recess.
At the plenary on Wednesday, the member representing Jama’are/Itas-Gadau Federal Constituency of Bauchi State, Rabilu Bala, formally quit the APC to join the PRP.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, who read Bala’s letter on the floor of the chamber, said the lawmaker attributed his decision to persistent internal disagreements within the APC and the need to pursue a political platform he believes would better enable him to serve the interests of his constituents.
Owo church attack: Court sentences four terrorists to death by hanging
More than three years after the gruesome attack on worshippers at St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, justice has been delivered as a Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced four terrorists to death by hanging for their roles in the massacre.
Justice Emeka Nwite handed down the verdict on Wednesday after finding Idris Abdulmalik Omeiza, Al Qasim Idris, Jamiu Abdulmalik and Abdulhaleem Idris guilty of terrorism offences linked to the June 2022 attack at St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo that left over 40 people dead and more than 100 injured.
The four men were prosecuted by the Department of State Services (DSS) on behalf of the Federal Government on a nine-count terrorism charge.
While convicting the defendants, the court ruled that the evidence presented established their direct involvement in the operation of a terrorist network and their participation in the deadly church assault.
Tinubu’s economic push sparks industrial takeoff — RMRDC DG
The Director-General of the Raw Materials Research and Development Council (RMRDC), Prof. Nnanyelugo Ike-Muonso, said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic agenda is driving Nigeria toward industrial self-reliance and stronger manufacturing growth.
Speaking in Abuja,he said the administration’s focus on value addition, local production, and import substitution aligns with RMRDC’s mandate of developing Nigeria’s raw materials for sustainable industrial growth.
According to him, recent policy measures have improved the environment for local sourcing of industrial inputs, increased investment in research and innovation, and strengthened domestic value chains.
Ike-Muonso noted that the renewed emphasis on Made-in-Nigeria products is already boosting key sectors, as industries increasingly adopt local alternatives to imported raw materials.
