According to a report by Punch, on Tuesday June 23, 2026, the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has reacted to the recent controversy over insecurity and alleged ethnic blame, urging Nigerians to avoid statements that could worsen tensions in the country.
The forum’s spokesperson, Prof. Abubakar Jiddere, condemned the kidnapping incident that triggered public debate, but strongly warned against profiling any ethnic group for the actions of criminals.
He stated that it was wrong to assume that members of one ethnic group were responsible for the crime, according to him, such conclusions only increase suspicion and deepen divisions in an already fragile national atmosphere.
Jiddere explained that Nigeria is currently facing serious security challenges and therefore requires careful communication from public figures, he stressed that leaders and commentators should speak with responsibility and avoid emotional or ethnic-based conclusions.
He noted that blaming an entire group for criminal acts committed by a few individuals is unfair and dangerous, he warned that it could lead to unnecessary tension and even retaliatory actions in different parts of the country.
The NEF spokesperson pointed out that Fulani communities are not only being accused in some cases but are also victims of insecurity themselves, he said many Fulani families have suffered greatly from banditry, kidnapping, and cattle rustling, especially in states such as Zamfara, Sokoto, Katsina, and Kebbi.
He explained that thousands of people from these communities have been displaced due to repeated attacks, this, he said, is often ignored in public discussions about insecurity.
Jiddere cautioned Nigerians against stereotypes, he argued that criminals should not be identified by dressing, appearance, or ethnic assumptions, he said such thinking is misleading and can lead to wrongful accusations.
“The question is, who told them it is the Fulani people who carried out the kidnapping? That is the ethnic profiling we are against. That is the problem. We are overheating the political atmosphere,” he said.

(The hidden truth)
Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor.
