Chelsea are exploring the possibility of re-signing Christopher Nkunku in the summer of 2026, with incoming manager Xabi Alonso reportedly driving interest in a potential reunion at Stamford Bridge as reported by Football365 on Tuesday June 2, 2026.
The French forward originally joined Chelsea from RB Leipzig in 2023 for £52million but endured an inconsistent spell at the club, managing 18 goals and five assists across 62 appearances before departing to AC Milan in 2025 for £36million.
His trophy haul with Chelsea included the Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Life in Milan has not gone as anticipated for Nkunku.
The 27-year-old managed only eight goals and three assists in 35 appearances for the Italian club, falling well short of expectations following his big-money move to San Siro.
Reports suggest AC Milan are now open to selling Nkunku for around €40million, a figure that would represent a cut-price opportunity for Chelsea to recoup a player they once invested heavily in.
Influential Chelsea fan account The Chelsea Forum posted on X that Alonso’s system, described as “high pressing, dynamic front three rotating constantly, is the exact environment where Nkunku’s career-best version emerges,” adding that “he was a different player at Leipzig under exactly this kind of structure.”
The account also acknowledged that the deal faces internal resistance, stating that club owners BlueCo remain wary of the optics surrounding a high-profile re-signing.
Complicating matters further, Milan recently parted ways with manager Massimiliano Allegri and have yet to name his successor, meaning the club’s transfer plans remain uncertain heading into the summer window.
