According to a report by Football London, on Tuesday 2 June, 2026, Chelsea are reportedly entering a key decision point on the future of Marc Cucurella as new head coach Xabi Alonso begins reshaping the squad, with the emergence of Jorrel Hato giving the club a ready-made replacement option.

Cucurella’s situation has become more open than it once was. Although he still has three years left on his contract, he is now understood to be open to a move away from Stamford Bridge after a difficult campaign that saw Chelsea finish 10th in the Premier League.

Interest in him is strong, with clubs such as Atlético Madrid, Real Madrid, and Barcelona all reportedly monitoring his availability.

Chelsea, for their part, are not pushing him out, but they are willing to negotiate if a suitable offer arrives.

A major reason Chelsea are relaxed about potentially losing Cucurella is the rapid rise of Jorrel Hato.

Signed from Ajax in 2025 for around £37 million, Hato has quickly adapted to English football and is already being viewed internally as a long-term starter.

His versatility is a major factor in Chelsea’s planning, as he can operate both as a left-back and a left-sided centre-back, offering tactical flexibility that fits Alonso’s evolving system.

Alonso is said to value defenders who are comfortable in possession and capable of building play from the back, which aligns closely with Hato’s strengths.

Compared to Cucurella’s more traditional, high-energy style focused on pressing and overlapping runs, Hato offers a more modern profile, with composure on the ball and progressive passing ability.

This stylistic difference is influencing Chelsea’s transfer stance. Rather than urgently replacing Cucurella with a like-for-like option, the club now believes they already have internal depth to cover the role if he departs.

That reduces pressure in the transfer market and allows Chelsea to prioritise other defensive reinforcements elsewhere in the squad.

Ultimately, Cucurella’s future will depend on valuation and offers received, but Chelsea’s confidence in Hato’s development means they are no longer fully dependent on him.

Favor As Higher Power?

(The hidden truth)

Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor. Favor is silent, spiritual and higher power. For spiritual guidance, other solutions, call/Whatsapp Dr J.A. Faros on 07030514063. With God, all are possible.
