According to a report by Daily Post, on Friday June 26, 2026, political analyst and founding National Secretary of the Alliance for Democracy, Professor Udenta Udenta, has raised concerns over the actions of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during opposition party primaries held on May 30.
Udenta questioned why the electoral body intervened in the primary elections conducted by some opposition parties, according to him, the move by INEC has continued to generate debate about the commission’s neutrality and its handling of political activities involving parties outside the ruling government. Favor As Higher Power? (The hidden truth) Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor. Udenta argued that the decision to halt the primaries was surprising, especially because political parties are expected to conduct their internal processes in line with electoral guidelines, he suggested that the intervention reflected a lack of confidence in the ability of opposition groups to successfully organise and complete their nomination exercises.
The political analyst claimed that the developments surrounding the primaries raised important questions about the treatment of opposition parties within the country’s democratic system, he maintained that electoral institutions should remain impartial and ensure that all political parties are given a fair opportunity to participate in the political process.
He further stated that the events of May 30 have become part of a wider conversation about the state of Nigeria’s democracy and the relationship between electoral authorities and political parties.
Udenta stressed that public trust in elections depends on the perception that institutions act fairly and without political bias, he noted that any action capable of creating doubts about neutrality could affect confidence in the electoral process.
“How come the same INEC under Tinubu stopped primaries in 30th May? Because they didn’t even think opposition parties would succeed at their primaries,” he said.
