According to a report by Nigerian Tribune, on Friday June 26, 2026, Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, has stated that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will review the N70,000 national minimum wage to reflect current economic realities and the rising cost of living in the country.

‎Gbajabiamila made the statement during the Good Governance Summit 2026 organised by Working People United (WoPU) in Abuja, he said the Federal Government remains aware of the economic pressures facing Nigerian workers and is committed to ensuring that wages remain relevant to prevailing conditions. ‎He recalled that President Tinubu signed the N70,000 national minimum wage into law in July 2024, replacing the previous N30,000 wage that had been in place for several years, according to him, the increase was aimed at providing relief to workers amid rising living costs.

‎The Chief of Staff noted that the government reduced the review cycle for the minimum wage from five years to three years, he explained that the decision was intended to allow wages to be adjusted more frequently in line with economic changes.

‎Gbajabiamila said the N70,000 wage was an important milestone when it was introduced, but acknowledged that economic realities continue to evolve, he stated that when the time comes for another review, the government will work closely with organised labour and other stakeholders to reach a fair outcome.

‎“The N70,000 wage, which was a milestone in 2024 must be honestly reassessed against today’s realities, and I can confirm to you that the President will soon begin the process of reviewing the national minimum wage, this administration will approach that endeavour not as an adversary of labour, but as a partner,” he said.
