According to a report by Anadolu Agency on Sunday, June 28, 2026, Bahrain has announced that its air defence systems successfully intercepted and destroyed several Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting the Gulf kingdom, marking a significant escalation in regional tensions following recent military exchanges between Iran and the United States.

In a statement released on Sunday, the Bahraini Defence Force said its forces had “successfully intercepted and destroyed a number of Iranian missile and drone attacks” directed at the country’s territory.

The military accused Tehran of carrying out a sustained campaign of aggression against Bahrain, describing the strikes as deliberate attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure. “Iran continues its systematic hostile campaign through its criminal missile and drone attacks targeting civilians,” the Bahraini military said in a statement posted on the social media platform X.

According to the statement, the intentional use of missiles and drones against civilian areas and private property represents “a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.” The military stressed that all branches and units of the Bahraini Defence Force remain on the highest level of operational readiness to safeguard the country’s territory and protect its citizens.

Authorities also urged residents to remain vigilant in the aftermath of the attacks. The public was warned not to approach any unfamiliar or suspicious objects, as they could be remnants of intercepted missiles or drones that landed after being destroyed by air defence systems.

Earlier on Sunday, Bahrain’s Interior Ministry confirmed that air raid sirens had sounded across the country following reports of possible incoming attacks. While officials did not immediately provide details on casualties or damage, the activation of emergency warning systems reflected the seriousness of the threat.

The attacks came after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had launched missile and drone strikes against American military bases in Bahrain and Kuwait. The Iranian military said the operation was carried out in retaliation for recent U.S. airstrikes on targets inside Iran.

Tehran has accused Washington of escalating the conflict through military action, while the United States has maintained that its strikes were conducted in response to Iranian attacks on commercial shipping transiting the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
