Renowned social commentator Sam Omatseye has criticized opposition leaders in Nigeria, questioning their seriousness and capacity to present a credible political alternative.

Omatseye made the remarks during an interview on TVC News, where he assessed the current state of opposition politics in the country. Speaking on the program, he expressed concern over what he described as a lack of depth and strategic thinking among opposition figures, particularly in how they brand and position themselves to the electorate.

During the interview, Omatseye ridiculed the naming of a political party by some opposition elements, using it as an example of what he sees as a broader issue. “They don’t even know how to name a political party. They named one and they called it Ada which is like neighbour’s name or sister’s name,” he said. The comment drew attention to his belief that political branding should reflect seriousness, ideology, and national appeal rather than casual or familiar naming conventions.

Omatseye argued that such decisions risk undermining public confidence in opposition movements, especially at a time when Nigerians are seeking viable alternatives to the ruling establishment.
