According to a report by Fox News, on Thursday April 30, 2026, In a scathing monologue on Fox News, host Jesse Watters painted a dire picture of Iran’s current economic state, suggesting the nation is spiraling toward a financial collapse reminiscent of Zimbabwe’s historic hyperinflation.
Watters attributed the crisis to the mounting pressure of U.S.-led blockades and Operation Economic Fury, a targeted strike on Iran’s shadow banking industry designed to choke off the regime’s illicit revenue streams.
According to Watters, the Iranian economy is currently in real economic peril, with basic goods becoming unaffordable for the average citizen.
“Iran’s economy is starting to look like Zimbabwe,” Watters stated. “The inflation rate are you ready? 70%. And their currency? It’s like over a million rial for a cup of hummus”
The host highlighted the regime’s desperate attempts to manage the fallout, noting that the military has taken drastic measures to maintain control.
“The military’s killed the country’s Wi-Fi, saying you can barely run a business,” Watters reported. This digital blackout, coupled with the crumbling economy, has reportedly devastated traditional industries. “You know Persian rugs? Can’t sell them. The Persian rug business is going belly up”.
Watters broke down the Iranian economy’s lack of diversification, noting that without oil exports, the nation has almost no viable trade left.
“90% of the economy’s oil. The rest? Rugs and pistachios,” he said.
The U.S. naval blockade has reportedly left 20 Iranian ships filled with oil growing cobwebs” in port, preventing the sale of over 60 million barrels of crude valued at approximately six billion dollars.
Watters noted that the regime’s pipelines are close to exploding as storage capacities reach their limit.
The most significant blow to the regime, however, appears to be Operation Economic Fury. This strategy targets the illicit webs of underground transactions that fund the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Watters claimed the operation is already seeing results: “The military doesn’t care as long as they get paid. But the IRGC just missed payroll”.
By sanctioning the shadow banking industry, the U.S. is reportedly freezing golden parachutes and retirement funds held by Iranian officials outside the country.
“We are freezing, we’re holding those for the Iranian people same with all their villas in the south of France and all over the world”.
