According to report by Nigerian Tribune on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, a wave of defections from the All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged in Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina states, as several former party stakeholders and supporters have thrown their weight behind the Accord Party and its presidential hopeful, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The declarations were made during separate political mobilisation meetings held across the three northern states.

Participants, including grassroots organisers, women leaders, youth representatives, and former APC members, pledged to work for the growth of the Accord Party and support Hashim’s presidential ambition.

According to the defectors, their decision was driven by growing dissatisfaction with the current state of the nation.

They cited worsening economic conditions, insecurity, and what they described as a widening gap between government officials and ordinary citizens as key reasons for abandoning the APC.

Speaking in Kano, former APC stakeholder Mallam Goje Bashir said many loyal party members had become disappointed with the performance of the present administration.

He announced his support for Hashim, expressing confidence in the Accord Party as a viable alternative for Nigeria’s future.

Similarly, former APC chieftain Hajia Rabi Fagge said political realignment was gaining momentum across the North, with citizens increasingly demanding accountable leadership, development, and national progress.

In Jigawa and Katsina, stakeholders echoed similar concerns, insisting that Nigerians were seeking leaders capable of tackling insecurity, reviving the economy, and improving living standards.

Ambassador Aisha Ibrahim, women leader of the Hashim Progressive Movement, stated that the region was preparing for another major political shift after playing a significant role in the 2023 elections.

Jigawa State Coordinator Abdulrasheed Ali described Hashim as a credible and trustworthy leader, while Katsina Coordinator Muhammad Abdullahi highlighted his growing popularity among voters searching for an alternative political platform.

Representatives of Hashim’s campaign said the endorsements reflected expanding nationwide support for his agenda of economic recovery, security, job creation, and inclusive governance.
