According to a report by Daily Post on Thursday, June 4, 2026, Ayodele Fayose, former governor of Ekiti State, has stated that President Bola Tinubu would consistently defeat leading presidential contenders such as Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, even if elections were conducted repeatedly up to ten times.

He made this assertion while addressing the ongoing political discussions surrounding Nigeria’s electoral landscape and the strength of major opposition figures.

Fayose made the remarks during an interview on EKTV, where he responded to concerns and debates arising from the growing calls by some Nigerians for President Tinubu to resign from office.

These calls have largely been linked to the worsening security situation in parts of the country, which has continued to generate national attention and public debate.

In his submission, the former governor maintained that Tinubu remains politically stronger than his main rivals, suggesting that the current president would still come out victorious over both Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi in any repeated electoral contest.

He stressed that such outcomes would not change even if the elections were held multiple times under similar conditions.

He further commented on the nature of political support in the country, noting that public opinion remains divided among key opposition figures.

According to him, some citizens align themselves with Peter Obi, while others are firmly behind Atiku Abubakar, reflecting the fragmented nature of opposition politics in Nigeria’s electoral environment.

Fayose also pointed to the influence of social media discussions in shaping political narratives, indicating that much of the agitation and debate online is driven by supporters of different presidential candidates.

He suggested that these online engagements often reflect partisan loyalty rather than a unified political direction among critics of the current administration.

He reiterated his position that despite the criticisms and ongoing political conversations, the strength of Tinubu’s political base would still position him ahead of his rivals in any electoral rematch scenario, maintaining that the competitive gap between the ruling party and opposition figures remains significant in his view.

He said: “Now all those agitating on social media have candidates they are supporting, some are with Peter Obi, others are with Atiku; it’s still somebody you want to collect from Atiku and give.”
