The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed viral reports alleging that pupils and teachers abducted from Ahoro Esiele and Yawota communities in Orire Local Government Area have regained freedom.
According to a statement released on June 4, 2026 by DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Police Command, and shared via the official X handle of the Command on Thursday, the Command described the circulating claims as “false, misleading, and entirely unsubstantiated.”
“The claim is false. As of the time of this release, there has been no such development,” the statement read.
The police urged residents and the general public to ignore the reports, stressing that the spread of unverified information could create panic and disrupt ongoing rescue efforts.
According to the Command, security agencies are still carrying out intensive operations aimed at securing the safe rescue of the abducted pupils and teachers, while efforts are also being intensified to apprehend those responsible for the incident.
“The Command wishes to reassure the good people of Oyo State and the families of the victims that intensive and coordinated rescue operations remain ongoing,” the statement added.
The Command further warned against sharing false information on social media, noting that such reports could increase tension and threaten public peace.
Residents were advised to depend only on official communication channels for credible updates concerning the incident.
The police reiterated their commitment to ensuring the victims are rescued safely and assured the public that updates would be provided as new developments emerge.
For any emergencies, the Command stated that, the residents can contact the Oyo State Call Response Center toll-free line on 615 or the Oyo State Police Command Control Room on 08081768614 and 07055495413.
