According to a report by Daily Post on Thursday, June 4, 2026, Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu would defeat prominent opposition figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi in any electoral contest, even if the election were conducted multiple times.
He made the remark while speaking on the current political climate and growing debates surrounding the presidency.
Fayose made the statement during an interview on EKTV, where he addressed concerns raised by some political actors and citizens calling for the resignation of President Tinubu over the rising insecurity challenges in the country.
The discussion focused on political stability, electoral strength, and the resilience of the current administration in the face of criticism from opposition groups.
He argued that despite ongoing criticisms and challenges, the political structure supporting President Tinubu remains strong enough to withstand repeated electoral contests.
According to him, the president’s political influence and experience in navigating Nigeria’s political landscape would make it difficult for opposition candidates to unseat him in any election scenario.
Fayose also referenced Tinubu’s political journey, stating that the president was able to secure victory in a competitive electoral environment despite not receiving full backing from former President Muhammadu Buhari during the election period.
He suggested that this political resilience demonstrated Tinubu’s capacity to maintain power against significant opposition pressure.
He said, “Somebody whom Buhari did not support, but he struggled and emerged President, will now fold his hands and allow the opposition to take over power from him? Even me this little thing, will finish them.”
