According to TV Platinum, Clement Oshe has described the removal of fuel subsidy as the major factor worsening Nigeria’s economic situation, saying the policy continues to have a harsh impact on citizens and businesses across the country.

Speaking on the state of the economy, Oshe said the effects of the subsidy removal have remained severe since its implementation, noting that many Nigerians are struggling with rising costs of living and declining purchasing power.

“So the main thing is the removal of subsidy. It has it’s really bitting on the economy. It’s really bitting,” he said.

According to him, the policy triggered widespread economic hardship, especially through increased transportation costs, food inflation and higher operating expenses for businesses. He explained that the ripple effect has affected virtually every sector of the economy, leaving many households under pressure.

Oshe argued that while the government may have intended to reduce public spending through the removal of subsidy payments, ordinary Nigerians have borne the heaviest burden of the decision. He noted that workers, traders and small business owners are finding it increasingly difficult to cope with daily expenses.

The comments come amid continuing public debate over the economic reforms introduced by the current administration following the announcement that “subsidy is gone” during the presidential inauguration. Since then, fuel prices have risen sharply, contributing to inflation and economic uncertainty.

Economic analysts have also pointed to the rising cost of transportation and goods as one of the immediate consequences of the subsidy removal. Across several states, commuters and traders have repeatedly complained about the high cost of petrol and its effect on business activities.

Oshe maintained that more urgent measures are needed to cushion the impact on citizens. He stressed that without effective intervention and relief policies, the economic difficulties facing many Nigerians could worsen further.

His remarks reflect growing concerns among citizens and public commentators who believe the economic reforms, though aimed at long-term stability, have significantly reduced the standard of living for many families in the short term.

As inflation continues to rise and the cost of essential commodities remains high, discussions around subsidy removal and its economic implications are expected to remain central in Nigeria’s political and economic discourse.
