According to report by Daily Post on Monday, May 25, 2026, Former Governor of Ogun State, Olusegun Osoba, has raised concerns that key political figures from the South may be strategically positioned to weaken President Bola Tinubu’s support base ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the announcement of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential primary results at the Presidential Lodge in Abeokuta on Sunday, Osoba urged party members to remain alert and not become complacent over the outcome of the primary election.
He cautioned that the level of support recorded by President Tinubu should not be mistaken as a guarantee of automatic success in the next election cycle, stressing that political calculations for 2027 are already underway across the country.
According to him, emerging political activities in the southern region suggest a coordinated effort to reduce the President’s margin of victory by dividing votes that would otherwise consolidate behind him.
Osoba specifically mentioned some prominent southern politicians, suggesting that their growing visibility in the political space could be part of a broader strategy affecting electoral outcomes.
“Obi has emerged, Jonathan is quietly waiting in the background, and Makinde has been grandstanding. All these appear to be attempts to divide votes from the South,” he stated.
He warned that the ruling party must approach the situation with seriousness, discipline, and unity, insisting that internal confidence must be balanced with strategic planning.
The former governor further stressed that APC stakeholders should focus on strengthening cohesion within the party and avoiding distractions that could weaken its chances in 2027.
Osoba added that the unfolding political dynamics in the South should not be underestimated, as they may play a significant role in shaping voter distribution during the election.
He concluded by urging party leaders to remain vigilant and work collectively to protect the party’s dominance, especially in regions considered crucial to its electoral strength.
