Federal lawmaker Honourable Ikenga Ugochinyere has alleged that whoever is behind the deregistration attempt of the ADC, ZLP, Accord Party and the APP is dangerously underestimating the consequences of such actions.
Speaking in media coverage by Arise TV, Ugochinyere said, “Somebody somewhere thinks if he can dash you people lands, you have everything it takes to turn this country upside down. It’s not done that way and you’re playing with fire. Do you think you can have an election when you deregister all the political parties? Do you think they will all go home and be watching you?”
Ugochinyere cited Section 225A of the Constitution, which requires a party to win at least one seat at any level of government to retain its registration, a threshold he said every one of the affected parties had comfortably crossed.
He laid out the evidence plainly: stating that the ADC produced winners at the House of Representatives and Senate levels; Accord Party won local government chairmanship seats; the ZLP swept local government and councillorship elections across Abia State; and the APP won councillorship seats in both Jigawa and Bauchi.
