The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is preparing for a high-profile campaign event in Nasarawa State as several leading figures of the party are expected to participate in the final rally ahead of the Nasarawa North Senatorial District by-election slated for June 20, 2026.

According to a report by Vanguard published on June 17, 2026, key party personalities, including Peter Obi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and Seriake Dickson, are scheduled to attend the campaign’s closing event in support of the NDC candidate, Ishaya Ododo.

The development was disclosed by the Nasarawa State Chairman of the party, Hon. Dogo Shammah, during a meeting of the State Working Committee in Lafia. He noted that the gathering in Akwanga is expected to draw a large turnout of party faithful and senior officials as the NDC intensifies efforts to secure victory in the upcoming poll.

Shammah described the by-election as a significant political test for the party, saying it would provide insight into the NDC’s growing acceptance and readiness for the 2027 general elections.

Speaking about the planned rally, he stated that prominent members of the party leadership, including national leader Seriake Dickson, presidential candidate Peter Obi, and vice-presidential candidate Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, were expected to join supporters in Akwanga for the campaign finale.

The meeting also addressed the need for internal cohesion following the completion of the party’s primary election process. Shammah appealed to members who may have been unhappy with the primary results to move past their differences and work collectively toward achieving electoral success.

He emphasized that with the primaries concluded and winners already determined, party members should focus on unity, discipline, and a shared commitment to advancing the party’s objectives.

Also addressing attendees, the NDC governorship candidate in Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Maidoya, reaffirmed the party’s dedication to improving the welfare of citizens, particularly young people and women.

Maidoya expressed optimism about the party’s chances in future elections, maintaining that the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket has boosted the NDC’s popularity and strengthened its position as a formidable force in Nigeria’s political landscape.
