According to a video posted on the official YouTube channel of Arise News on Monday, May 25, 2026, National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the party’s nationwide primaries demonstrated growing confidence in the ADC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Abdullahi made the remarks during an interview on Arise Prime Time while addressing the party’s ongoing presidential and legislative primary elections across the country. He described the process as highly competitive and transparent, adding that party members turned out in large numbers to participate in the exercise.
Speaking on the strength of the party’s internal structures, Abdullahi said the ADC was committed to democratic competition rather than imposing candidates on members. He noted that disagreements over consensus arrangements eventually led the party to adopt direct primaries.
Highlighting the scale of participation within the party, Abdullahi stated, “We have 109 senatorial aspirants, 568 House of Representatives aspirants, and 80 people contesting for governorship positions.”
He added that the large number of aspirants reflected growing public belief in the ADC’s political direction and its ambition to present itself as a major alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 elections.
