According to a report by Vanguard on Monday, April 20, 2026, Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Media and Public Communication, has expressed concerns over internal party leadership issues, particularly questioning the crisis management approach of Peter Obi.

Speaking during a television interview on African Independent Television, Dare addressed ongoing tensions within opposition parties, including the Labour Party and the African Democratic Congress. He noted that Obi’s involvement in the Labour Party has drawn scrutiny, especially regarding how internal disagreements have been handled. According to Dare, effective leadership should be judged by the ability to manage disputes and maintain unity within a political structure.

He further argued that Obi did not found the Labour Party and therefore does not wield absolute control over its internal processes, stressing that party cohesion depends on inclusive leadership and conflict resolution mechanisms.

Dare also responded to allegations suggesting that the current administration is influencing the crisis within the African Democratic Congress. He dismissed such claims, insisting that the challenges facing the party are purely internal and are being addressed through established legal and organizational frameworks. He emphasized that the matter remains under judicial consideration and should not be linked to the presidency or external interference.

Describing the situation within the African Democratic Congress, Dare said it revolves around ownership and leadership disputes. He explained that individuals who were part of the party’s original formation have returned to reclaim control, leading to heightened tensions.

He maintained that such conflicts are not unusual in political organizations, particularly when questions of leadership legitimacy and structural control arise. Quoting his remarks, Dare stated that the party had been “hijacked,” adding that its original stakeholders are now seeking to reclaim it, while questioning attempts to associate the presidency with the unfolding crisis.
