BREAKING: Opposition Party ADC Sends Strong Message — “We Cannot Be Deterred”
According to a report by Nigerian Tribune on Saturday, April 25, 2026, the African Democratic Congress has raised concerns over what it described as alleged plans to disrupt an opposition political gathering scheduled to hold in Ibadan.
The party stated that it had received information suggesting that efforts were being made to interfere with the planned meeting involving multiple opposition groups.
The event, which is set for Saturday, April 25, was organised as part of ongoing consultations among political parties seeking to build cooperation ahead of future elections.
The conference, according to organisers, is themed around the need for opposition parties to work together in order to sustain Nigeria’s democratic system.
The gathering is expected to bring together political leaders, academics, and former election officials to discuss governance, political collaboration, and the role of opposition voices in national development.
The event is also intended to serve as a platform for dialogue among different political actors on how to strengthen democratic participation in the country.
Among those expected to participate in the summit is former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who is scheduled to chair the event.
Other speakers listed include Chidi Odinkalu, Dr. Dran Bugaje, Pat Utomi, and Mike Igini, a former Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, is also listed as the chief host of the programme.
The ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, issued a statement on Saturday through the social media platform X, where he expressed concerns about what he described as interference with opposition activities.
He alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress had previously denied opposition groups access to venues in Abuja for a separate national convention.
According to him, these developments form part of a pattern that affects the ability of opposition parties to hold meetings and organise political events.
He said, “They say they are not scared, but they are behaving like petrified people” But we will not be deterred, because we are on the side of the Nigerian people.”
