Security expert Oyekachi Adekoya has raised concerns over the psychological toll of Nigeria’s worsening security situation following the abduction of Mrs. Olaide Busayo John-Paul, sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and her 12-year-old twin sons in Ibadan.
Speaking during an interview on News Central TV, on Thursday, 4 June, 2026, Adekoya reacted to the incident by highlighting how the persistent wave of kidnappings and violent crimes across the country has created fear and anxiety among many Nigerians.
The security analyst recalled the experience of a former colleague who resigned from his job due to the emotional burden of constantly dealing with reports of insecurity.
“I once had a colleague of mine resign. This was about 5 years ago and his case for resigning was that he couldn’t sleep well at night because of the amount of incident that occur across the country everyday,” Adekoya said.
According to him, the frequency of security breaches and criminal attacks has extended their impact beyond the direct victims, affecting the mental well-being of citizens and even professionals who monitor such developments.
The comments come amid public outrage over the reported abduction of Mrs. John-Paul and her children while they were on their way to school in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital. The incident has renewed concerns about the safety of commuters, students and families in different parts of the country.
