Former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed has alleged that both Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi failed in their duty as opposition leaders by abandoning the constitutional breach argument he raised in 2023.
Speaking on Trust TV, Datti said, “Opposition is when you are actually technically engaging the misruling government on every action that they do and not only when it is time to seek particular office that you come out to speak. Left to me, right from 2023, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar and His Excellency Peter Obi should have maintained that tempo that I initiated about constitutional breach.”
Datti argued that a sustained campaign on constitutional violations would have kept the government under constant pressure, potentially preventing some of the crises Nigeria has experienced since then.
He said the failure to maintain that pressure was not accidental but a reflection of who these politicians fundamentally are. According to him, politicians who have never truly been out of the system lack both the instinct and the motivation to hold any government seriously to account.
