In a recent interview on Arise TV, on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, National Chairman of the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), addressed fresh controversy surrounding allegations of irregularities in the party’s nomination process and claims involving former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Baba-Ahmed dismissed the allegation linking Kwankwaso to the purchase of multiple nomination forms in Kano, insisting that the story was false, misleading, and not supported by any official record within the PRP structure.
Speaking during the interview, Baba-Ahmed stated, “I have spoken to Kwankwaso, he is amused he bought 69 forms for a non-existent candidate.” He made the remark while responding to questions about reports circulating in parts of the media regarding alleged misconduct in the handling of nomination forms in Kano State.
According to him, the PRP operates a strictly centralised system for the issuance and sale of nomination forms, which are only available at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja. He explained that no state chapter has the authority to sell, distribute, or control nomination forms, adding that this structure was designed to prevent manipulation and ensure transparency.
Baba-Ahmed further stated that the individual making the allegation is not recognised by the party and has no official standing within its leadership framework. He maintained that the claims being circulated were politically motivated and intended to create confusion within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He also clarified that the PRP had already concluded its primaries in accordance with its constitution, with successful candidates emerging through a structured and verifiable process. He added that the party has since forwarded its list of candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for official recognition.
Baba-Ahmed concluded by urging the public to disregard what he described as fabricated stories, reaffirming that the PRP remains united, disciplined, and focused on strengthening its internal democratic processes as it prepares for the 2027 elections.
