According to Fox news, Iran has drawn a series of red lines in its ongoing negotiations with the United States, insisting that several key issues will remain off the table as both sides work toward a permanent agreement following last week’s memorandum of understanding.
Speaking on Tuesday, Iranian Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva Ali Bahreini said Tehran would not accept any arrangement that limits its control over unfrozen assets or dictates how those funds should be spent. His remarks came amid conflicting statements from Washington regarding the terms of the emerging deal.
Bahreini rejected suggestions that Iranian funds released under sanctions waivers would be subject to U.S. oversight or restricted to purchases of American goods. Instead, he stressed that Iran alone would determine how the money is used.
“Only country” that will decide how to use the assets is Iran, Bahreini said, according to Reuters.
The envoy’s comments marked the latest indication that Tehran is seeking to define clear boundaries for the 60-day negotiation process established under the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding signed earlier this month. The interim accord ended hostilities and launched talks aimed at reaching a broader settlement covering sanctions relief, nuclear issues and regional security concerns.
Iran has also pushed back against calls from some regional governments and U.S. officials to include its ballistic missile program in the negotiations. Reports from Gulf capitals indicate that several Arab states would like future agreements to address Iran’s missile capabilities, but Tehran has repeatedly signaled that defense matters are not open for discussion.
Similarly, Iranian officials have rejected demands that negotiations extend beyond the nuclear file to encompass broader military capabilities or support for regional allies. Tehran maintains that its defense posture is a sovereign matter and not subject to foreign bargaining.
Differences have also emerged over international inspections. While U.S. President Donald Trump said Iran had agreed to extensive nuclear inspections, Iranian officials have denied that any final arrangement on inspections of damaged nuclear facilities has been reached.
Despite the disagreements, both governments have continued to describe the talks as constructive. The memorandum commits the two sides to pursuing a final agreement within 60 days while maintaining a ceasefire and avoiding actions that could derail diplomacy.
Iranian leaders have emphasized that future negotiations will focus on sanctions relief, nuclear commitments and implementation mechanisms, but insist that issues relating to national defense, missile capabilities and sovereign control of Iranian assets “will never be” included in any final bargaining process with Washington.
