BREAKING: Bauchi Governor Halts APC Defection Plan Amid Party Dispute

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has shelved plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) following internal disagreements within the party over conditions for his admission.

The move comes after factions within the Bauchi APC rejected a proposed power-sharing arrangement, reportedly based on a “60-40 formula,” which was part of ongoing negotiations tied to the governor’s possible defection.

Party stakeholders in the state had earlier expressed strong reservations about admitting Mohammed, citing concerns over internal democracy and cohesion.

At a caucus meeting in Abuja, leaders warned against sidelining existing members in any deal.

“The omission is unacceptable,” the caucus said, stressing that decisions of such magnitude must involve broad consultation with state stakeholders.

The caucus also cautioned that imposing terms without due process could destabilise the party.

It noted that any arrangement must reflect inclusiveness and protect the interests of long-standing members.

“In view of the foregoing, the caucus firmly holds that his admission into the APC at this time would be detrimental to the party’s cohesion, credibility, and electoral prospects,” party leaders said in a communiqué.

Governor Mohammed had been engaged in high-level consultations with APC leaders in recent weeks, fueling speculation that his defection was imminent.

However, resistance within the state chapter of the party complicated the process.

Earlier, the governor himself acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding his political future, saying, “We have found ourselves in a very serious situation.

“I have done everything possible to ensure reconciliation, but it has not worked.”

The development reflects growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with key figures weighing strategic moves across party lines.

As of press time, Mohammed has not announced a new political direction, leaving his next move open amid ongoing negotiations and shifting alliances.

(The hidden truth)

Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor.
