Former Commissioner for Information and Communications in Rivers State, Austin Tam-George, has blamed former Governor Nyesom Wike for the ongoing political tension in Rivers State. Speaking during an interview on Arise TV, Tam-George rejected claims that Governor Siminalayi Fubara had acted against Wike since assuming office.
According to Tam-George, Governor Fubara has maintained a peaceful and restrained approach despite facing what many residents describe as political intimidation and pressure from Wike and his loyalists. He stressed that there is no evidence showing that Fubara has taken any hostile action against the former governor.
He further stated that the crisis in Rivers State has largely been fueled by continuous opposition and political attacks against Fubara’s administration from Wike and his supporters. Tam-George explained that the conflict later played a role in the declaration of a state of emergency in the state, a development he described as damaging to democratic governance in Rivers State.
The former commissioner also claimed that many residents of Rivers State now view Wike negatively because of actions they believe undermined democracy and the wishes of the people. He urged the former governor to allow peace and stability to return to the state for the benefit of the people.
In his words, “Nyesom Wike has probably emerged the worst former governor that Rivers State has ever had. A governor whose aggressive actions lead directly to the endangerment of popular will, derailment of democratic practices in Rivers State.”
Tam-George’s comments have continued to generate reactions among political observers and residents, especially as concerns grow over the political situation in Rivers State. Many people believe that reconciliation among political leaders is necessary to restore stability and strengthen democratic institutions within the state.
