ADC chieftain Oladimeji Fabiyi has said Nigerians should hold President Bola Tinubu accountable as chief security officer for the worsening insecurity, arguing that the current administration has failed to deliver on its promises.
Speaking on Trust TV, Fabiyi reacted to the nationwide protest of teachers over the abduction of schoolchildren. He said it is a failure of leadership and not out of place to call the country unfortunate under the present government.
He said the parents of the children that are in captivity are in pain and said the criminals are wicked and do not care. He said the Tinubu government came in promising to fix security, the economy, and other problems, but the situation has only deteriorated.
He argued that Nigerians now have another chance in the 2027 presidential election to make a wise decision, warning that the remaining one or two years of this administration can bring more hardship.
When asked that abductions also happened under the administrations of Buhari and Jonathan, Fabiyi replied that Tinubu sought power on the promise that he could fix what others could not. He said those who had their turn as presidents have left, and Tinubu ran for president, saying he would do it better.
He stressed that security is the foundation, and once it collapses, everything else follows. Fabiyi said Tinubu also promised to fix power, yet the situation has not improved. He urged Nigerians to remember those promises and hold the president to account.
In his words, “Another four years is here. Take the wise decision. We cannot afford to have this kind of… The next one or two years that remain in their government, only God knows what we are going to be faced with. So this is not politics. This is reality.”
