According to report by Vanguard on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, a dispute has emerged within the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) following allegations of irregularities during the party’s primary elections in Imo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Former House of Representatives member, Uche Nwole, accused some influential figures within the party of interfering with the electoral process and weakening internal democracy.
Nwole, who represented the Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency between 1999 and 2003, said his return to active politics was motivated by concerns about the state of democracy in Nigeria and the need to promote fairness within political parties.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja, Nwole explained that he joined the NDC because of its leadership and vision, particularly expressing confidence in the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
However, he claimed that the Imo State primaries were manipulated by powerful interests seeking to impose preferred candidates and dominate party structures.
According to him, a committee sent by the party’s national headquarters to oversee the primaries, headed by Chief Babatunde Are, was unable to effectively carry out its responsibilities.
He alleged that the panel failed to properly supervise the exercise, resulting in several irregularities.
Nwole further stated that although aspirants and party members gathered for the primaries, the supervisory committee was absent from designated venues.
Consequently, local government party officials reportedly conducted the exercise and compiled results, which were later forwarded through official channels.
He claimed that these locally generated results were rejected by the national leadership and replaced with what he described as parallel results.
Nwole warned that the growing influence of a single individual within the party’s Imo chapter could damage the party’s credibility and electoral prospects.
He disclosed that he and other aspirants had submitted a petition to the party leadership, requesting a review of the primaries and an investigation into the allegations.
They urged the party to ensure transparency, fairness, and due process, stressing that resolving the dispute is crucial to maintaining confidence among members and voters ahead of the 2027 elections.
Favor As Higher Power?
(The hidden truth)
Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor. Favor is silent, spiritual and higher power. For spiritual guidance, other solutions, call/Whatsapp Dr J.A. Faros on 07030514063. With God, all are possible.
