NDC deregistration: Peter Obi’s camp reveals next line of action

The media office of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has described the Lokoja High Court judgment regarding the party’s registration status as a temporary setback, saying the decision will be challenged legally.

This is contained in a statement by the Peter Obi Media Reach, POMR, signed by its spokesperson, Idris Zekeri Jnr, on Friday.

POMR noted that it has been flooded with inquiries from journalists and concerned Nigerians following the decision.

The media office urged Obi’s followers, political partners, and the general public to stay calm while the legal team finishes reviewing the judgment and prepares to file an appeal.

ADC: State Police legislation politically driven

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the present administration’s push for state police, describing it as a “rushed and politically driven response to Nigeria’s worsening insecurity.”

The opposition party also argued that while it supports the creation of state police, the reform cannot succeed without the institutional preparedness and safeguards necessary to make it effective.

In a statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said state police is a necessary component of Nigeria’s long-term constitutional reform, but warned against presenting it as an immediate “solution to the escalating crisis of banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism confronting the country.”

The ADC warned against treating legislation as a silver bullet, insisting that comprehensive police reform, independent oversight, judicial autonomy, correctional services, intelligence coordination, and other supporting institutions must be strengthened alongside any decentralised policing framework to prevent abuse and ensure lasting security.

ICPC chair: Nigerians losing confidence in lawyers

The Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN), has expressed concern over what he described as Nigerians’ declining confidence in the legal profession, warning that lawyers must reclaim public trust by upholding integrity and ethical values.

Aliyu spoke in Kano on Friday at the ICPC/Nigerian Law School zonal workshop on integrating anti-corruption studies into university law faculties and the Nigerian Law School under the theme, “Institutionalising Anti-Corruption Education in Nigerian Legal Training.”

The ICPC chairman said the conduct of some members of the legal profession, particularly in corruption-related cases, had raised serious questions among Nigerians about lawyers’ commitment to truth, justice and the rule of law.

We need to ask ourselves whether Nigerians are happy with what they are seeing from the legal profession.

Osun Guber: Osogbo group urges Ataoja to remain neutral

Ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State, the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun, has been urged to remain politically neutral and not to allow the palace to become a platform for partisan activities.

The appeal was contained in a statement by the Oroki United Front on Friday in Osogbo.

The statement signed by the group’s Coordinator, Abass Jayeola, followed a purported directive for the Olurokis to attend a meeting with the Accord Campaign Council at the Ataoja’s palace.

According to the statement, “the meeting was reportedly convened under the agenda, Existing understanding between the ACCORD Party and Osogboland and any other relevant matters”.
