According to a report by Daily Post on Friday, June 26, 2026, pqresidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has alleged that forces within the Federal Government are working to prevent him from appearing on the ballot for the 2027 presidential election.

Obi made the allegation on Friday while speaking as a guest lecturer at a leadership programme organised by the NextGen Mentorship and Leadership Initiative at Madonna University, Okija.

According to him, there are ongoing efforts aimed at stopping his participation in the next presidential election, although he maintained that he remains focused on his political objective despite the challenges he claims to be facing.

Speaking before participants at the leadership programme, Obi said he was aware of actions allegedly being taken to frustrate his political ambition ahead of the 2027 general election.

He told the audience that if the public were aware of the measures he claimed were being employed against him, many Nigerians would be surprised.

The former Anambra State governor made the remarks while discussing leadership, perseverance and the importance of remaining committed to one’s goals despite obstacles that may arise along the way.

According to Obi, the alleged efforts are intended to ensure that he does not eventually contest the 2027 presidential election.

He claimed that the Federal Government was doing everything within its power to prevent him from appearing on the ballot.

Despite making the allegation, Obi did not provide specific details of the actions he claimed were being taken against him during his address at the event.

His comments nevertheless formed part of his broader discussion on political leadership and determination in the face of adversity.

The former presidential candidate also stated that he has chosen not to allow the alleged obstacles to distract him from his political aspirations.

He explained that rather than concentrating on the difficulties he claims to be encountering, he remains focused on achieving his long-term objective.

Obi urged participants at the programme to remain steadfast in pursuing their ambitions regardless of the challenges they may encounter, stressing that persistence and commitment are essential qualities for anyone seeking to achieve meaningful goals.

The leadership programme, organised by the NextGen Mentorship and Leadership Initiative at Madonna University in Okija, provided a platform for discussions on leadership development, public service and national progress.

Obi used the occasion to share his experiences and encourage young people to remain committed to their aspirations despite setbacks.

He said, “If you know what they are doing to ensure that I’m not on the ballot in 2027, you will be surprised. Nigerian government is doing everything to ensure that I do not contest in this election, but I’m not looking at the obstacles but at the destination.”
