Actor-turned-politician Desmond Elliot has revealed that his journey into politics began with the support and mentorship of former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
Speaking on the Morayo Afolabi-Brown Podcast on June 23, 2026, the Lagos State lawmaker recalled how a chance meeting with Oshiomhole in Benin City in 2007 set him on the path to public service. According to Elliot, he shared his political aspirations with Oshiomhole, who subsequently arranged an introduction to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, widely known as Asiwaju and then a leading figure in the Action Congress.
Elliot said the introduction marked the beginning of a series of valuable political connections. He noted that he was later introduced to Sunday Dare, and through consistent engagement and commitment, he gradually built a place for himself in politics after establishing a successful career in Nollywood.
Recounting the experience, Elliot said: “In 2007, I met Adams Oshiomhole in Benin and told him what I wanted to do. He said Asiwaju would be coming the following week. When he arrived, Oshiomhole introduced me to him, and shortly after, I was introduced to Sunday Dare. From 2007 and 2008, the relationships kept growing, and I remained consistent.”
The Surulere representative stressed that persistence played a crucial role in his political rise, explaining that he focused on nurturing relationships and seizing opportunities over time rather than expecting immediate success.
