According to a report by The Punch on Thursday, June 4, 2026, following the recent abduction of students in Oyo State, Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo (Sunday Igboho), has claimed that some politicians are behind the activities of armed groups operating in the South West.
He made the remarks during a meeting with members of the National Association of Nigerian Students in Ibadan, where he spoke on the insecurity situation in Oriire Local Government Area and the wider region.
Igboho said he had volunteered to lead efforts to rescue the abducted students but was not allowed to proceed by the state government. He added that his security initiative had faced restrictions despite what he described as federal approval.
He insisted that with proper backing, he and his group could flush out armed men hiding in forest areas, arguing that local intelligence and action would be more effective in addressing insecurity.
The activist also maintained that he knows those sponsoring the attackers and warned that he would expose them if the violence continues.
The abduction incident in Oriire Local Government Area has continued to raise concern, with security agencies still tracking suspects believed to have escaped into surrounding forest reserves.
“If I am permitted to burst into the hideouts, they will flee. They are neither gnomes nor mannequins; they are humans, so that they could be dislodged. I know the politicians behind them, and if they do not stop perpetrating their evil acts, I will mention them all. I know them. The politicians behind them are the ones giving them ammunition and money.”
