According to a report by The Nation on Thursday 14th May 2026, former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), ending months of speculation about his next political destination.
Mimiko was received at the APC secretariat in Ondo West Local Government Area, where top party officials, including the state chairman, Mr. Babatunde Kolawole, and Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, led his official welcome into the ruling party.
The former governor, who served from 2009 to 2017, recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in April, a move that signaled his gradual return to frontline partisan politics after a period of relative political silence; Before his stint in the PDP, he was also a prominent leader in the Labour Party (LP), where he built significant political influence.
Political analysts say his defection to the APC could reshape alliances within Ondo State politics, especially given his strong support base and long-standing presence in Ondo Central Senatorial District.
APC insiders describe his entry as a strategic gain for the party ahead of future elections, noting that groundwork had already been laid to ensure a smooth integration.
A former aide, Mr. Akinsola, confirmed the development, saying arrangements for Mimiko’s formal reception into the party had been completed.
