According to report by The Nation News on Monday, June 1, 2026, Political parties preparing for Nigeria’s 2027 general election have begun reconciliation efforts following the completion of their primary elections, seeking to resolve disputes and strengthen internal unity before the next phase of the electoral process.

The parties are also awaiting access codes from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which will enable them to submit the names of their candidates.

According to the electoral timetable, parties contesting the presidential and National Assembly elections will begin receiving the codes on June 27, with submissions closing on July 11.

The period before then allows parties to finalize running mates and make any permitted candidate substitutions.

The conclusion of party primaries marked a major milestone in preparations for the 2027 polls. Notably, at least four women emerged as presidential candidates from different political parties, adding to the diversity of the race.

While most of the 22 registered parties successfully conducted their primaries through consensus or direct voting before the deadline, several major opposition parties emerged with lingering internal disagreements.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu secured the presidential ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress through a nationwide direct primary widely regarded as orderly. Similarly, Peter Obi emerged as the candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

However, tensions followed the presidential primary of the African Democratic Congress, where Atiku Abubakar secured the ticket.

Two aspirants, Rotimi Amaechi and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, rejected the outcome and declined to participate in the final collation process.

In response, Atiku launched reconciliation efforts, visiting both Amaechi in Abuja and Hayatu-Deen in Lagos to mend divisions within the party.

He later disclosed that discussions with Hayatu-Deen were productive and focused on fostering unity and rebuilding the party ahead of the election.

The APC is also addressing grievances arising from governorship, senatorial, and state assembly primaries in states such as Delta, Bauchi, Gombe, Ekiti, and Lagos.

Party leaders have pledged to engage aggrieved aspirants through internal dispute-resolution mechanisms.

Meanwhile, leadership disputes continue to affect several opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party, where rival factions have produced competing presidential candidates.

As parties work to resolve these conflicts, attention is shifting to INEC’s nomination process and the next stages of the electoral timetable.

Favor As Higher Power?

(The hidden truth)

Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor.
