In an interview with Arise TV, General Usman said if a proper count is taken, most Boko Haram fighters are actually Nigerian citizens. He questioned why this is happening and why people from within the country continue to join the group.
In General Usman’s words: “This is what should agitate our minds in the sense that bulk of the people who started Boko Haram way back 2009 most of them have been eliminated. So how is it that Boko Haram kept on recruiting and if you take census of Boko Haram almost all of them are Nigerian citizens. Why is it so? Is it the responsibility of the armed forces to stop Boko Haram from recruiting from the Nigerian population?”
