According to a report by Reuters on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Beijing for a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening strategic ties between Russia and China and discussing major international developments with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Putin was received at the airport by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi ahead of a series of high-level meetings scheduled to take place in the Chinese capital. The visit comes as both countries continue efforts to expand political, economic and diplomatic cooperation.
According to officials, the Russian leader’s trip will focus on bilateral relations as well as discussions on key regional and global issues affecting both nations. The visit also coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation between Moscow and Beijing.
On May 20, Putin and Xi are expected to hold closed-door talks before participating in a broader meeting involving senior delegations from both countries. Discussions are expected to cover economic cooperation, trade relations, energy partnerships and international security matters.
The two leaders are also scheduled to meet later in the evening for an informal tea discussion, where they will exchange views on major global developments and issues of mutual interest.
Chinese officials said the visit is expected to further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries and promote cooperation across multiple sectors.
