In a recent discussion broadcast by Arise TV, Atedo Peterside, the leader of ANAP Foundation and founder of Stanbic IBTC Bank, shared his insights regarding Nigeria’s shifting political scene with the upcoming 2027 general elections in mind, particularly highlighting the increasing prominence of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Peterside pointed out what he views as an unforeseen political result stemming from the latest interactions between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with lesser opposition parties.
He noted that the focus placed on up-and-coming parties can meaningfully affect how they are perceived by the public and their significance in elections.
He mentioned, “The most detrimental action the APC or INEC could have taken regarding the ADC was to totally overlook them.”
He continued: “In the realm of politics, attention acts as a form of currency. When you concentrate too much on a minor party, you unknowingly raise its profile and give the impression that it holds more importance than it originally did.”
Peterside elaborated that the amplified scrutiny, legal actions, and public discussions related to the ADC have inadvertently positioned the party at the forefront of national political debates, thus increasing its recognition among voters.
He pointed out that in the political context of Nigeria, perceived pressure from governmental bodies or major political parties often fosters sympathy for opposition groups, which can enhance public interest and backing.
He stated, “There exists a psychological aspect in politics. When individuals sense that a smaller party is being targeted or restricted, they tend to pay more attention to it and might even back it out of interest or sympathy.”
He further remarked: “Hence, rather than diminishing such a party, extra focus can genuinely empower it by incorporating it into the national dialogue.”
Peterside also emphasized the importance of strategic political messaging for both ruling and opposition factions, especially within a competitive democracy like Nigeria, where stories can rapidly shape public opinion.
He insisted that political figures must be thoughtful in their responses to rising parties, cautioning that overreacting or engaging unnecessarily can lead to unforeseen results.
The president of ANAP Foundation remarked that the political climate in Nigeria is becoming more dynamic, with voters gaining exposure to various platforms and alternative viewpoints as the 2027 elections approach.
He contended that this changing environment demands a more cautious approach from institutions and political players, particularly regarding how they engage with opposition parties.
Peterside asserted that the strength of any democracy not only depends on having multiple parties but also on how fairly and strategically they are treated in the political framework.
He added that completely disregarding smaller parties may at times be a more effective tactic than giving them excessive attention, depending on their influence and organization level.
Favor As Higher Power?
(The hidden truth)
Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor. Favor is silent, spiritual and higher power. For spiritual guidance, other solutions, call/Whatsapp Dr J.A. Faros on 07030514063. With God, all are possible.
