According to a report by Fox News, on Sunday April 26, 2026, a high-security atmosphere turned into a tense, real-time crisis at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner following reports of a shooting incident near the event’s entrance.
Fox News senior White House correspondent Peter Doocy, who was in attendance, described a scene of immediate alarm as law enforcement surged into the venue to secure the area.
Doocy, speaking from the scene, recounted the moment the situation escalated rapidly during the dinner.
”The stage when I turned around to look at the stage in the table which is about 30 feet from where was sitting there was a secret service officer who again everything is unfolding in real time,” Doocy said.
“I turned my back and there was an officer with a long rifle pointed in the direction of our table. I’m sure we have this video. There were officers every couple of feet with their rifles pointed out towards the crowd.”
The correspondent emphasized that the intensity of the security response indicated the severity of the threat.
“That’s not something that happens unless there has been an extreme threat to the life of the president or the life of the vice president,” Doocy noted, adding that the scene was very similar to what we saw in Butler, Pennsylvania.”
