According to a report by Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday 26th May 2026; Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has assured party aspirants that their efforts in building the party will be valued even if they do not emerge as candidates for the 2027 general elections.
He gave the assurance on Monday night in Abuja at a dinner organised for governorship, National Assembly, and other aspirants, where the party also formally inaugurated its Selection Committee ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
Obi praised aspirants for choosing to participate in politics despite Nigeria’s economic and security difficulties, describing their ambition as a form of national service and sacrifice.
He stressed that electoral processes inevitably produce winners and losers, but insisted that contributions made during party-building should not be discarded.
According to him, those who may not secure tickets should not see it as rejection, but as part of a broader political journey that still holds value within the party structure.
The former Anambra governor also recounted his recent engagements in South Africa, where he interacted with Nigerians in the diaspora.
He said many expressed deep frustration over conditions in Nigeria, with some unwilling to return due to worsening socio-economic realities.
Obi further expressed concern about Nigeria’s security situation, noting the contrast between the country’s past international peacekeeping role and its current internal security struggles.
National Leader of the NDC, Seriake Dickson, commended party members for their commitment, describing the NDC as a fast-rising opposition force with increasing national acceptance.
He said the party’s screening and selection processes were designed to ensure competence, fairness, and strategic positioning ahead of the elections.
Dickson also disclosed that the party is building a database of aspirants for future roles, including campaign structures and advisory committees, while considering electronic voting systems for primaries to enhance transparency.
The gathering included stakeholders and aspirants from across the country, though Rabiu Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso was absent, with party officials explaining that he was attending political engagements in Kano ahead of primaries.
Favor As Higher Power?
(The hidden truth)
Some positions in life cannot be held or retained for long if you are not favored. Favor is higher power. You are not the only one desiring, deserving, connected, powerful or qualified. Some positions in life, opportunities, success, achievements, triumphs, selection, approvals, power and position, elevation, patronage, etc, are mainly through favor. Favor is silent, spiritual and higher power. For spiritual guidance, other solutions, call/Whatsapp Dr J.A. Faros on 07030514063. With God, all are possible.
