According to a report by Arise News on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, Ovie Omo-Agege, former Deputy Senate President and Senator, has expressed his political stance ahead of the 2027 general election, stating his support for the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
He also emphasized that his political loyalty now rests firmly with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a platform he recently joined after his exit from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
He explained that his departure from the APC marked a new phase in his political alignment, noting that his current affiliation with the ADC reflects his present convictions and strategic direction.
According to him, his support for Peter Obi is based on a belief that the former presidential candidate possesses the capacity to gain public confidence and effectively implement governance approaches that resonate with Nigerians.
During an interview conducted on Wednesday, he maintained that while he continues to acknowledge the economic reforms introduced under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, he believes that Peter Obi would be more effective in ensuring that such policies are delivered in a manner that citizens would trust and accept.
He highlighted that public acceptance is a key factor in sustaining any reform agenda.
Omo-Agege also responded to remarks made by Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who had suggested that he posed no political challenge within the state’s political landscape.
He rejected the claim, pointing to his past electoral record as evidence of his continued political relevance and influence in Delta State politics.
He further referenced his role in the 2023 general elections, stating that the All Progressives Congress under his leadership recorded notable achievements in Delta State.
He explained that the party secured two senatorial seats out of the three available in the state during that election cycle, which he presented as a reflection of his political strength and organizational capacity at the time.
He also recalled the political contest in Delta Central Senatorial District during the same election period, noting that it involved a direct political engagement between himself and the sitting governor.
He described the outcome as a significant indicator of the competitive nature of the election and the support base he commanded within the district.
“Let me start by telling you, in the 2023 general elections, the APC that I led won two senate seats in Delta State out of the three,” he said.
“And of these two, Delta Central District, where the governor and I both come from, my party, led by me, won it in a head-to-head contest between the governor and I.”
