A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Convener of the Alternative Movement has warned that Nigeria could face a deeper crisis of public confidence if urgent and decisive steps are not taken to address the country’s worsening security challenges.
Speaking during an interview on TVC News on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, the political figure expressed concern over what he described as a growing sense of frustration among citizens amid persistent attacks and insecurity across parts of the country.
He argued that government officials and political actors must prioritize finding lasting solutions to security threats rather than engaging in unproductive public discourse while lives continue to be lost.
“But if you want to run the country as though we are in a republic now that people can die, people can die, people can die, people can die, it doesn’t matter, people can keep dying, the most important thing on the table is to be talking nonsense, I can guarantee because I know,” he said.
The Alternative Movement Convener also suggested that Nigeria’s security situation is attracting increasing international attention, predicting that global powers may eventually shift their focus toward developments in the country once ongoing geopolitical crises elsewhere begin to subside.
“As soon as the Iranian problem is over, as soon as the Americans and the partners of the world take their eyes off the Iranian problem, write it on your hand, take it to the bank, they’re going to be interested in this Nigerian issue,” he stated.
According to him, discussions with international contacts indicate that some world leaders are already paying close attention to the security situation in Nigeria.
“Because from some of our friends and the people we play with there, we know that a lot of international leaders are livid to their bones, and they have almost converted it into a major assignment on their own, on their table, but they are distracted now,” he said.
He, however, cautioned that external involvement could raise important questions about the nature and scope of any assistance offered to Nigeria in tackling insecurity. “The challenge is that by the time they now say they want to come and help with this problem, what would then be the quality of the help, and what kind of help would they bring?” he asked.
The PDP chieftain further argued that global security agencies possess the technological and intelligence capabilities required to track and dismantle criminal networks, including those responsible for financing and supporting violent groups. “Because if you think that the world does not have the capability to find these criminals, smoke them out, you must be joking,” he said.
“The world that can find people in other countries, that can take out president, that can crush bombers, that can do all of that, that can play the kind of game they are playing in Iran and in Palestine, are they the ones that can find these rats?” he added.
