BREAKING: When My Son Heard That His Mother Had Fallen, He Turned To Go And Help Her, But He Was Shot – Olapade
As reported by Punch Newspaper on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, Gbenga Olapade, the father of 14-year-old Ezekiel Olapade, who was reportedly shot and killed near the entrance of the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat in Ilobu, Osun State, has shared the details of the attack that took place at his wife’s bar on Saturday evening.
He mentioned that the violence erupted unexpectedly while locals were going about their daily routines, causing chaos in the neighborhood and leaving families in profound disbelief.
Olapade noted that he had talked to his son less than half an hour before the heartbreaking event unfolded.
He pointed out that the offensive occurred in close proximity to police officers on duty, yet the assailants purportedly conducted the shooting with them nearby.
He claimed that the group of attackers was led by an individual named Saheed Tanfeani and stated that they opened fire on individuals gathered near the local government office without any immediate action to intervene.
The incident, which transpired at a palm wine bar, reportedly resulted in Ezekiel’s death and left another man injured.
The second casualty, described as wearing a yellow fez cap during the shooting, suffered gunshot wounds in the incident.
The gunfire induced a frantic atmosphere as individuals fled in search of safety, leaving the victims in dire distress.
While speaking in Osogbo on Monday, Olapade mentioned that he is originally from Ogbomoso but has resided in Ilobu since 1996.
He recalled listening to a radio show when the sudden sound of gunshots erupted near the entrance of the Irepodun Local Government Secretariat.
He expressed that the unforeseen attack instilled fear throughout the community as residents tried to grasp the situation.
He added that his son had initially moved away upon learning that his mother had collapsed during the commotion.
However, the boy reportedly returned to check on her after hearing about the circumstances, and at that moment, according to Olapade, the gunmen were targeting another individual nearby, causing his son to be struck by a bullet.
Olapade indicated that he did not instantly understand that his son had been shot, as he was focused on assisting the injured man wearing the yellow fez cap.
In the midst of the crisis, he hurried to help the wounded individual and took him to a pharmacy in Ilobu for medical attention. It was only later, after attempting to help the other victim, that he realized his own son had been tragically hit during the altercation.
“My son, after learning about his mother falling, turned around to go back to her.
“The assailants at that point were targeting the man with the yellow fez cap, and it was just then that my son was struck. I was the one who helped the man with the yellow cap and took him to a pharmacy in Ilobu, unaware that my own son had been mortally wounded,” Olapade stated.
