According to a report by Vanguard on Saturday, June 6, 2026, Iran’s national football team will be required to enter and leave the United States on the same day for its matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to the country’s ambassador to Mexico, Abolfazl Pasandideh.
The development comes amid ongoing tensions between Iran and the United States linked to the broader U.S.-Israeli conflict with Tehran. As a result, the Iranian team will operate from Mexico rather than its originally planned base in Tucson, Arizona.
Explaining the restrictions facing the team, Pasandideh said, “We can enter in the morning and we must leave the same day.”
Iran is scheduled to play three group-stage matches in the United States, with fixtures set to take place in Los Angeles and Seattle. The arrangement means the squad will travel into the U.S. for matches and return to Mexico immediately afterwards rather than remain on American soil between games.
The restrictions are tied to visa and travel conditions communicated to the Iranian delegation ahead of the tournament.
