He noted that under the country’s presidential system, the vice president would constitutionally assume the office if the president resigned or was unable to continue in office. According to him, such a transition would allow the ruling party to remain in power without dissolving the existing government.

In his words, “If Tinubu resigns and the APC decides that the APC should take over, you are not going to reconstitute the government; we won’t have an election.”

The professor stressed that calls for resignation should be viewed within the framework of Nigeria’s constitutional provisions, emphasizing that the country’s political structure provides a clear line of succession. His remarks highlighted the distinction between presidential and parliamentary systems, where leadership changes are handled differently.
