Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Israel takes recent statements by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan against the Jewish state “very seriously” and intends to raise the issue with the United States.

Speaking during a cabinet meeting on Sunday, Netanyahu warned that Erdogan’s repeated rhetoric cannot be ignored.

According to Times of Israel, Netanyahu told ministers that threats against Israel must always be treated seriously.

The Israeli premier added that Jerusalem would also draw the attention of its American allies to Erdogan’s remarks, stressing that Israel is closely monitoring the situation.

Tensions between Israel and Turkey have escalated in recent months, with Turkish officials intensifying criticism of Israel.

Earlier this month, Turkey’s interior minister called for the “liberation” of Jerusalem, further heightening concerns in Israel.

Since the outbreak of the Gaza war following the Hamas-led October 7, 2023 attack, Erdogan has emerged as one of Israel’s most outspoken international critics.

He has accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, supported International Criminal Court arrest warrants against Israeli leaders, and urged the United Nations to consider the use of force against Israel.

Reports from Western and Israeli media also noted that during a Ramadan prayer service in March 2025, Erdogan allegedly prayed for the destruction of “Zionist Israel.”

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump recently suggested that Erdogan’s hostility toward Israel could have influenced Turkey’s position during the recent US-Israel conflict with Iran.

Trump is also reportedly considering approving major arms sales to Turkey, including F-35 fighter jets, a development that has generated concern in Israel.
